Lumen needed a home that felt like print without pretending to be paper. We designed a column that holds long essays, a short well for news, and a cover story that can change weekly without a developer.

Images are large and few. Ads sit in reserved slots so they do not break the reading line. The type family is licensed for web and print, which keeps the journal and the site in the same voice.

Launch week traffic held through the essays, not only the homepage. The editors now plan issues in the CMS instead of in a shared desktop folder.
